My name is Christine Giardina and I am a senior at New York University. I produced Graduates of War as my senior documentary as part of the Honors Broadcast Journalism Program.
I chose to dedicate my entire senior year to veterans adjusting to civilian and college life with post-traumatic stress disorder because I believe it is a very under-reported topic. The issue is of dire importance especially now, as there has been a rapid increase in veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan and going right into college.
It was an honor to work with two outstanding veterans and let their voices be heard. Many return from war and remain silent. Their experiences, hardships and emotional battles remain untold. But sharing their stories empowers other vets to do the same and benefit from doing so.
